Description

SUMMARY: The Agronomist position is ideally suited for a recent college or university graduate with a keen interest in learning more about the business of agriculture in a large and growing company. This position will work with other company experts to develop the farm experience and oversee the continuous improvement of crop performance. While directly related experience is as asset, the main attributes needed are a solid work ethic and ambition to be part of a growing agriculture operation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: (Other duties may be assigned, as required) Liaise with local experts to develop overall farm experience. Contribute to the evaluation of plans and recommend necessary changes. Conduct regular field inspections and produce corresponding reports. Communicate continuous knowledge of latest methods for controlling disease, weeds, and insects. Research best cropping practices to improve economic returns and environmental sustainability, while producing a fine and consistent product. Work with producers to encourage soil testing and analysis to determine crop nutrient needs and match fertility programs with those needs. Evaluate crop performance as affected by weather, pests, and management practices, and on occasion give evidence for insurance purposes.
