Short Order Restaurant Cook
Job Brief We are looking for a skilled and efficient Short Order Restaurant Cook to prepare delicious meals according to our menu. You will cook dishes that will delight our customers with their taste and timely delivery. Additionally, you will plan and prepare daily specials of international flavours that will provide excitement and variety from our regular menu items. An excellent cook must be able to cook and deliver well-prepared and portioned meals. They must be deft in moving around the kitchen and apt in multi-tasking. Experience in using various ingredients and cooking techniques is also important. The goal is to help preserve and enhance our reputation, so we can expand our clientele. Responsibilities Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.) Cook food in various utensils or grillers Ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served Keep a clean, sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen at all times Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen equipment to ensure proper operation is achieved and maintained Ensure all food and other items are stored properly in an organized fashion Check quality of ingredients Wash dishes and clean kitchen, including floors Monitor stock and place orders when there are shortages Collaborate with other kitchen staff and servers Deal with complaints or problems with a positive attitude Work alone providing both cook and front of house food server duties including POS operation in the slow winter season for a part of each shift Requirements Proven experience as a cook for a minimum of 3 - 5 years. Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.) Ability to follow all sanitation procedures Ability to work in a team or alone Excellent physical condition and stamina Ability to maintain patience and composure during busy stressful periods Fluent English Problem solving and decision-making skills Flexible, responsible, reliable and trustworthy Attention to cleanliness and safety Ability to keep the restaurant organized, stocked and clean Exceptional people skills, a positive attitude and excellent communication skills Lifting up to 50 pounds with frequent balancing, reaching, handling, pushing, pulling, grasping, lifting, standing (95% of the work shift), seeing, walking the entire shift High school diploma or equivalent required Formal related post secondary education would be a big asset High school diploma; food safety training, WHMIS 2015, basic first aid and CPR training, and food server experience are considered assets
