Deli Cook / Baker
We are looking for an energetic and creative Deli Cook/Baker to prepare simple foods and bakery items for our shelves and hot and cold cases. Maintaining well stocked visually appealing and appetizing displays and providing excellent shrink management and inventory control in accordance with established policies and procedures is necessary. An excellent cook/baker will be able to forecast needs, cook and deliver well-prepared and appealing items that can drive impulse sales. They must be apt in multi tasking and have experience in using various ingredients and equipment. The successful candidate will play an essential role in preserving and enhancing our reputation in this department and further promoting customer satisfaction and revenue growth objectives. Responsibilities • Finish decorated cakes for special orders such as birthdays and anniversaries • Proof and bake off prepared frozen bread products • Bake off frozen products such as cookies, sausage rolls, samosa, pot pies, etc. • Fry chicken, ribs and mojos and bake whole chickens • Create a variety of salads and make sandwiches • Prepare assorted deli trays and platters • Package and price products • Practice proper inventory control procedures, ensuring proper stock rotation, storage, and levels • Prepare orders for stock, receive stock and check against invoices • Submit claims and monitor best before dates • Check refrigeration equipment for proper performance regularly • Remove trash and recyclables • Comply with handwashing standards and use disposable gloves and hair nets • Clean, stock and face product on shelves and hot and cold cases, and other display areas • Keep work and display areas well organized, clean and sanitized • Package, tray, label and price items • Perform general cleaning duties (i.e. sweeping, mopping floors, washing dishes) • Proper and safe operation of digital scale, label maker, slicers, overwrap machine, ovens, rotisserie, fryer, and vacuum sealer • Cross-sell products and introduce new ones • Resolve customer complaints with a positive attitude, guide them and provide relevant information • Stay customer focused and deal pleasantly to nurture an excellent customer experience • Adhere to environmental health safety standards • Collaborate with other stock clerks and store staff Requirements • Proven working experience in Deli Cook/Baker positions, 2 year minimum preferred • Strong communication and time management skills • Highly customer satisfaction-oriented • High attention to detail • Problem solving and decision-making skills • Flexible, responsible, reliable and trustworthy • High attention to cleanliness and safety • Sales and merchandising skills • Ability to unload trucks • Ability to operate equipment • Fluent English • Basic math skills • Lifting and moving 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 lbs with frequent balancing, reaching, handling, pushing, pulling, grasping, lifting, standing (95% of the work shift), seeing, walking the entire shift • Ability to work in varying temperatures • High school diploma, food safety training, WHMIS 2015, basic first aid and CPR training, are considered assets
